What this site keeps, and why.

This site keeps a small log of visits, so I can see who reads my work. Nothing in it is sold, shared, or used for ads.

What the log keeps

The page and the time; the approximate place and network, as Cloudflare reports them (on an office network, that is often the organization's name); your browser's description of itself; the site that sent you here, its address only; and whether the page stayed open for a few seconds, which is how I tell people from scanners. Your internet address is kept only in a scrambled form that changes each month.

From 5 October 2026, this site sets one cookie, jdb_v: a random number that lets it recognize your next visit. It belongs to this site only, is never shared, and lasts 13 months.

You can change your answer here at any time.

If you write to me

The contact form keeps your name, email address, message, and the time you sent it in this site's database, and emails them to me. To stop floods, it briefly counts notes from each internet address, in scrambled form.

Who sees it

Only me. The log and the messages are kept in this site's own database at Cloudflare, which runs the site. I read the log on a private page and in a short daily email to myself.

How long it is kept

Visit records, the daily summaries made from them, and form messages are deleted after 13 months. The email copy of a message stays in my inbox, like any other email.
